A Plastic Molding Company that Cares About Clients
“They came to us four years ago or so,” recalled Mike Ashleigh, Sales Account Manager at UPM. “They had already designed and developed the product, but someone else was making it, and it was not a great fit. They found UPM, and we have taken it and brought them full circle.”
Strickland praised Universal Plastic Mold’s willingness to go above and beyond to help his business reach its goals. “UPM has been gracious to help my start-up company grow,” said Strickland. “We have got a product that can change the cooler industry, and increasing awareness has been a challenge for us. UPM has really helped us out.”
The Know-How to Meet the Needs of Clients
Strickland talked about how UPM was able to find solutions to initial problems with his molds to craft the product he was looking for. “I shipped them all my molds, and they (the molds) had issues,” he said. “UPM knew how to fix them.”
Because of the unique, double-walled design of the Double Cooler, it required both plastic injection molding as well as blow molding. The design allows for a cooler that can hold two different liquids while also keeping ice separate, preventing dilution of drinks in the primary reservoir. However, this design made the project particularly tough for other companies who were unwilling or unable make the product as the client had envisioned it.
“It was a difficult project for other plastic molders, but we’re willing to go the extra mile,” said Ashleigh. “We’re not just going to mold parts. We’re going to use blow-molded parts as well. We make all the internal parts, take it to our assembly area, and we have the two-part foam equipment to create an assembly line for making the product.”
Universal Plastic Mold worked with Double Cooler to entirely manufacture and assemble a product the client was comfortable to bring to market. These clients include major retailers across the country including Amazon, Home Depot, and much more.
“I sleep easy knowing that my coolers leave their dock to my customers and there won’t be any warranty problems,” Strickland said. “I have great confidence in them and the way they take care of the product.”
A More Efficient, American-Made Product
“People are getting away from having a large building,” Ashleigh explained. “The fact that we can do assembly, 3PL logistics, and shipping has become a completely new value stream, and it helps to streamline the process for the client, as opposed to dealing with a third-party.”
Where other plastic molding companies frequently contract third-party associates for assembly or outsource actual development to overseas countries like China, all of Universal Plastic Mold’s construction and assembly are handled right here in the United States. This focus on domestic manufacturing and American-made products results in a closer relationship with clients in addition to savings.
“I would really say they’re a partner in my company,” Strickland asserted. “They’ve done things that have saved me thousands of dollars.”
A Better Experience and Bottom Line for Businesses
The result is one delighted client, and an excellent example of the lengths UPM will go to meet the needs of its customers.
“I owe Mike and Steve (Steve Dowling, Vice President of Operations) everything,” said Strickland. “It’s just a good company.”
